Discover Fun Life: Exploring St. Augustine: A Dog-Friendly Adventure

St. Augustine, Florida, known for its rich history and charming atmosphere, proved to be the perfect destination for a recent getaway with my furry companion, Zeus. Our journey began with a scenic drive along A1A, soaking in the ocean views and passing by majestic mansions that lined the coast.

We wanted to hit a few tourist stops along the way, a few lighthouses, however due to liability reasons, they don’t allow pets to go up with you. They do allow pets on the grounds of the lighthouse, but there’s no fun if you’re not able to go up and enjoy the view.

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the Castillo de San Marcos, where Zeus and I were able to walk around the grounds. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the inside of the fort, which does take away some of the luster of St. Augustine. We also discovered that the local San Sebastián winery was open to four-legged visitors, adding a touch of relaxation to our adventure. That night it was freezing up on the rooftop, but we stayed warm by the heat lamps and I enjoyed some local white wine and a sandwich. We turned in for the night after that since it had been a long day of driving.

The second day, we spent some time at the famous shops on St. George St. We loved that all the shops were dog friendly, which made exploring that much better. We found this adorable pet boutique, Faux Paws, that offered a variety of pet accessories.  I bought myself a Yorkie water bottle and Zeus earned himself some treats. After that we ate at St. Augustine Seafood Company, where I enjoyed some locally brewed beer and a rice bowl. We walked a little more after lunch, but headed over to our next stop for the day.

Venturing to the Fountain of Youth, we found another pet-friendly gem, where Zeus was free to explore alongside me. Despite the chilly weather, Zeus’s excitement was evident as he sniffed new smells and experienced his first ever cannon firing. We learned all about the lifestyle back in the day, and even sipped from the Fountain of Youth. Zeus happily explored and even was entranced by the peacocks. We took some selfies and then headed back to our airbnb to reset for the night time activities.

Our airbnb was really cute and perfect for us. There was a small enclosed backyard with a little bench to sit on. Zeus loved it and would happily skip over the stepping stones. Our Airbnb, which provided a cozy retreat for both of us, was just outside of downtown, a quick 10 minute drive to be exact. From the front yard, you could see the beautiful St Augustine lighthouse. The name of this place on Airbnb is Explore Historic Downtown St. Augustine.

Oldest school house is nestled down on St. George Street. It costs $6 to get in and it’s also dog friendly. It’s a historic site that takes about 40 minutes or so to really appreciate. I would recommend adding this to you stop while visiting this fantastic city.

Our stroll by the pier added a sense of serenity to our day, with Zeus by my side, making each moment memorable. As the sun began to set, we couldn’t resist stopping by the beach to capture some candid photos of Zeus against the stunning backdrop of the ocean, creating lasting memories of our unforgettable experience in St. Augustine.

Overall it was an amazing trip, with a lot of pups, sights and great food. If you’re looking for a fun 3 day getaway with your furry companion, this is the place to go!
